For the anniversary of the murder of the anti-Mafia magistrate Paolo Borsellino, demonstrators marched from via d'Amelio, the street where Borsellino was assassinated with a car-bomb, to via Notarbartolo, where the anti-Mafia magistrate Giovanni Falcone lived before being murdered three months before Borsellino in 1992. The demonstrators show a red diary (L'agenda rossa) as a symbol of the red diary Paolo Borsellino used to note down his personal considerations and remarks, and that disappeared from his briefcase the day he was assassinated. It is believed that the red diary contained notes on what Paolo Borsellino discovered on Giovanni Falcone's death and on the relationship between the mafia and the Italian State.

"Picciriddi", the Sicilian dialct word for "children", is a status that differentiates the Sicilian child from children that come from the Italian peninsula. In Sicily, childhood ends fairly soon and imitating the adults can be a way to face a bitter and hard reality that children should not live. There are no parks or activities for them, so they transform deserted grounds into simple playgrounds.

Torretta is the town of Carlo Gambino of the New York Gambino Family. Torretta is infamous for its high concentration of mafiosi and is known for its international drug smuggling ring called the Pizza Connection and is still to this day a mafia stronghold. The small town of Torretta was involved in the FBI and Italian Police investigations during the "Pizza Connection" Trial and "Iron Tower" operation, that led to the arrest of mafiosi both in the United States and Italy.
